A Note on Equipment
Tim Laman uses a wide variety of equipment for his cinematography and photography work above and below water, including a RED Digital Cinema Helium 8K camera, Canon, Nikon, or Sony SLR and Mirrorless cameras for different applications, as well as GoPros and iPhones. Gitzo and Sachtler tripods and heads, dji drones, Nauticam underwater housings, Cognysis camera traps, and many other accessories. Different situations require different tools, and it is an equipment intensive business for sure. But as you have probably heard before, it’s not the camera that makes the image, it’s the photographer. So don’t obsess about equipment, and work with what you have to create good stories. The tools we have at our disposal today for visual storytelling are incredible, and the possibilities are endless.
