Hormone Hunters
On the cover of the Fall 2011 edition of Boston University's Arts & Sciences magazine is Tim's picture of an orangutans. The story is about his wife, Cheryl Knott, and her research on the great apes of Borneo Island. Since 1992, Cheryl has studied orangutan reproduction and nutrition. Canon Advertisments
In August, Tim received a NG Assignment from Canon Japan. He was featured in a television commercial, print ads, and interviews which are all posted on CANON JAPAN'S WEBSITE. The add was for Canon's new 400mm f/2.8 lens which Tim was using to shoot scarlet ibises in Venezuela.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year
Last week the Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition anounced the 2011 winners. Tim's picture, "The paper-clip suitor", was Highly Commended in the Bird Behaviour category. Ziegler at Work
Tim photographed good friend and fellow Nat Geo photographer Christian Ziegler working on a story about Panama's balsa tree. National Geographic magazine published Christian's story "Open All Night" in May 2011. The story was also published in National Geographic Germany's July 2011 issue. They used two of Tim's pictures of Christian working from his tower in the canopy.
Tim and Christian also were on a team of 4 photographers that shot a RAVE on Bioko Island in 2008 for a Nat Geo story. You can see Tim's Bioko Island pictures in his online archive.
The Bund
A couple of months ago when Tim was in China he was featured in "The Bund" magazine. In the May 26th, 2011 issue the above picture was the opening spread of the Bund Forum. Four of Tim's pictures were featured in the article and it ended with another picture of Tim by the local photographer.
Natural History
Tim's picture was used on the cover of the October 2010 issue of Natural History magazine. The story entitled "Married to the Mob" looks at the social behavior's of one of the smallest primates in the world, the tarsier. Originally, Tim took this picture for the National Geographic story "Night Shift in the Rain Forest" published October 2001. Look3 Festival of the Photograph
Tim was not able to make it to the festival this year but did participate by showing a multimedia piece. Entilted "How to Impress Females (In The Bird World)" was very well recieved at this years festival in Charlottesville, VA. It is about the unique mating rituals of the birds of paradise and bowerbirds. In each species, the males compete for females in very different ways. You can watch the video through Tim's website.

China Radio International
Tim recently did a lecture in Beijing about photographing in the rainforest. As a result there have been many local articles on Tim and his work. China Radio International posted a story about Tim's Bird of Paradise project with lots of Tim's pictures. They have an english version on their website.
Orangutans in the Mist
Tim's recent DSLR video was used in a science video on U.S. News' website. Produced by the National Science Foundation, the video features Tim's wife, Cheryl Knott, as she talks about her orangutan research. She has been working in Borneo for 18 years and speaks about her conservation efforts to help protect the endangered orangutan. You can watch the movie on U.S. News Science page. Traveling to China
Tim will be in China in May as an instructor for Wild China's photo camp. They have a nice website with field portraits of Tim and a slideshow of his images ranging from Antarctica to the rainforest. While Tim is in China, he also is giving two presentations in Beijing and Shanghai for National Geographic China.
Vanity Fair, Time, W, Sports Illustrated, InStyle
What do the above magazines have in common? They all have Tim's picture in their recent issues. The Magazine Publishers Association is using Tim's image of a file-eared tree frog from Borneo Island, Indonesia as part of their ad campaign. The ad below was published in the March 14th issue of Time Magazine.

BBC Knowledge
The January/February 2011 issue of BBC Knowledge features Tim's images in the story "Protecting the Killers". This is the first time that Tim's work has been published in the UK magazine. The photographs used were from Tim's mangroves coverage which you can see at Tim Laman.com
Prints and Cards Available
For the holiday season, Tim Laman's images are available as prints and cards. Visit Tim's Archive to view an ever increasing number of photos to choose from. Prints range from 8x10 to 16x20 inches. The folded greeting cards come in two sizes, 3.5x5 and 5x7 inches.
Raja Ampat Aerials
Tim was recently in the Raja Ampat Islands of Indonesia again, continuing shooting for his Birds of Paradise Project. He had a chance to shoot aerials from the front seat of pilot Max Ammer's ultralight. Max has been a leader in the exploration and conservation of this area for many years and besides owning the premier diving destination resort in the area (check out Papua-Diving.com), he has founded the Raja Ampat Research and Conservation Center which aims to promote the study and conservation of the unparalleled biodiversity of this region.
These amazing islands are home to two unique species of Birds of Paradise. Check out the time lapse video of Tim and Max's flight.
NG Masters of Photography Lecture
National Geographic Live is presenting two lectures by Tim this weekend. The first is entitled Bizarre and Breathtaking in New Guinea which will be held on Friday November 5th at 7:30 p.m. at National Geographic in Washington D.C.. Simply Beautiful
The Steven Kasher Gallery is hosting the exhibit Simply Beautiful from October 21 to November 23. Tim's image Cranes in Morning Mist, Hokkaido Island, Japan is on display along with other National Geographic photographers pictures. All of the NG Image Collection images are available as limited edition prints.
