Wildlife Photographer of the Year Winners Announced
This past weekend the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition announced the winners and had the gallery opening at the Natural History Museum in London. Tim was specially commended in the Creative Visions of Nature category and highly commended in the Gerald Durrell Award for Endangered Wildlife. You can see the winning images below. Gallery a Success
Tim's images were on display at the Konica-Minolta Building in Toyko during September and it was a great success. The theme was on Biodiversity and showcased Tim's work from the rain forest treetops to Fiji's reefs. Tim was featured in an article in The Yomiuri Shimbun which has the largest newspaper circulation in the world. Below is a copy of the article that was published on September 23rd.
Travel to Antarctica with Tim
National Geographic Expeditions in association with Lindblad Expeditions host a trip to Antarctica, South Georgia, and the Falklands. Tim will be the National Geographic photographer on the February 15th to March 10, 2011 expedition. On this 24 day trip, Tim will have many opportunities to photograph different species of wildlife including the penguins, petrels, albatrosses, whales, and seals. Check out the expedition details and a map of the locations the National Geographic Explorer will land.
New York Times
Today's article entitled "Precursor to H.I.V. Was in Monkeys for Millennia" used Tim's image of a black colobus from Bioko. It illustrated one of the species of monkeys that researchers studied to determine the mutation rate of S.I.V. You can read the article in the Health section of the NYT.
Gallery Opening in Japan
The Konica-Minolta Plaza gallery in Tokyo will be showing Tim's prints from September 8th to October 7th. It is entitled Biodiversity because the selection of the 100 cm prints is a collection of his best work. The work covers the depths of the ocean to the tree tops of Borneo and from the antarctic landscape to rain forests of Indonesia.
WildPhotos
This year WildPhotos 2010 will be held in October at the Royal Geographical Society in London. Tim will be speaking along with some of the world's best nature photographers. Tim will be speaking about his quest for the birds of paradise and the challenges of rainforest photography. The WildPhotos webpage features Tim's blue bird of paradise (Paradisaea rudolphi) image.
YUS Conservation Area
In January of 2009, The YUS Conservation Area in Papua New Guinea became the first of its kind. More than 35 villages agreed to protect this area, named after the three rivers: the Yopno, Uruwa, and Som, to prohibit logging, hunting and mining. The Wealth of Nature
The Wealth of Nature: Ecosystem Services, Biodiversity, and Human Well-Being is a gold winner in the 2010 Independent Publisher Book Awards in the Environment/Ecology/Nature category. Tim is very happy to be a contributing photographer of this book by Cristina G. Mittermeier, Jeffrey A. McNeely, Russell A. Mittermeier, Thomas M. Brooks, Frederick Boltz, and Neville Ash.
Mangroves Gallery in France
This spring, Tim's collection of mangrove images were on display in a gallery in France.
The gallery ran from the 9th of April to the 2nd of May, 2010. If you read French you can check out the website here.
Nature's Best Photography
In 2009, Tim was a highly honored winner in the Landscapes category.
You can see Tim's winning picture on his portfolio website. Tim has entered the 2010 contest and winners will be announced in the fall.
The Wildlife Photojournalist in OP
Tim was featured in the August issue of Outdoor Photographer. The interview is about what it is like to be a wildlife photojournalist and how he gets the perfect shot. The opening spread (below) features an adult male Bornean orangutan eating ginger stems while keeping an eye on the female he has been following.

Ranger Rick Photographer of the Year
A lot of Tim's work is featured in Ranger Rick. In 2009, Ranger Rick named Tim as their photographer of the year.
In the May 2010 issue, RR made the announcement using three of Tim's pictures of the different places he shoots. Keep a look out for Tim's work in RR in the future.
Bowerbirds Article is Out
Tim started shooting Bowerbirds back in 2005. After many trips to the other side of the world Tim's article on Bowerbirds has been published.

Mangroves On The Edge?
Tim's mangrove images are featured in the summer issue of The Nature Conservancy magazine. The opening spread of the mangroves feature is an aerial view of the Sarawak Mangrove Reserve near Kuching, Malaysia.
Tim also has a photo essay with 6 different images, each representing a different aspect of the mangroves. Below is the opening image on restoration.
Also included in the essay are images on harvest, range, biodiversity, protection and threats.
Red List Species of the Day
The IUCN is celebrating the International year of Biodiversity 2010 by creating the Species of the Day. Today Tim's image of the Panay Monitor Lizard (Varanus mabitang) is used for Species of the Day. The Panay Monitor Lizard is an endangered species endemic to Panay Island in the Philippines. Birds of Paradise in GEO
GEO's June issue contains a new article on Birds of Paradise. It features both old and new photographs of 9 different species.
This image shows a creative angle of the hind side and tail feathers of a male King Bird of Paradise (Cicinnurus regius). Other species in the article include Carola's Parotia, Goldie's Bird of Paradise, Lesser Bird of Paradise, Magnificent Bird of Paradise, Red Bird of Paradise, Ribbon-tailed Astrapia, Victoria's Riflebird, and Wilson's Bird of Paradise.
Foja Mountains Article Hits Newsstands
The June issue of National Geographic is out. Check out Tim's article "Discovery in the Foja Mountains" on page 110. It illustrates the wide diversity of species and what it took to study the remarkable area.

New articles coming out in 2010
Keep a look out for Tim's work being published this year. He has two stories coming out in National Geographic's June and July issues. Later in the year National Wildlife and GEO will be publishing his work as well.
